Fare Thee Well, Lion Heads....

A little over 10 years ago, Adam and I started amassing furniture to fill our first home together. We were so Boho Chic before it was cool. We spent very little to no money on furnishing our home. A couch handed down from my sister (actually, my parents handed it down to her!), a loveseat from my grandparents, a dresser from Adam's parent's basement and a dresser from my parents. We didn't have bedside tables, but my Dad had an antique vanity sitting around one of his barns that he had a great idea for. He split the two sides of the vanity apart and made them into super functional bedside tables. And they were fabulous...but still nothing matched. So Adam & I had the great idea of buying these great lion headed drawer pulls. They were so amazingly awesome, they even had to be special ordered. You can't just walk in and buy these anywhere, folks. I know you are dying from the suspense, so here is what we ordered (and paid a TON of money for!)...

Aren't those sweet?? Just kidding. It didn't take but a couple of months for the buzz to wear off and we totally started kicking ourselves for buying them. But there was always something else to spend money on and our bedroom has always been the last thing on our minds, so we have ended up living with them for 10 YEARS. Ugh.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago - I brought home a totally awesome duvet set from the clearance endcap at Target and finally got excited about our bedroom makeover. So here is what our room looked like...

I love the color of the duvet so much....but it is killing me. I can't find anything to match it. Everything is either too green or too yellow. It is really driving me crazy. So far the only thing I have found to match it perfectly are some drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby. I picked 4 of them up to replace the 1962 pulls on the bathroom vanity. But totally didn't think about using them anywhere else. Today I was strolling through Hobby Lobby (without a stitch of makeup on - sorry Topeka!!) and decided to pick up a drawer pull up to carry with me in my purse all the time, since I am having such a hard time finding anything to match the color. Then I noticed the 50% sign. So I counted out 12 chartreuse pulls and 4 big flower pulls and sped home to try them out. Here is the bedside table with lion heads...

And with lovely chartreuse pulls...

Isn't that super cute?? And here is the dresser before...

And after!

The unfortunate thing about the lion heads is that they had 2 screws and we had to drill new holes for them, so I had to replace them with something that was large enough to cover the 2 holes. These crystal-like flower shaped pulls are HUGE and cover them perfectly!

And it really isn't bothering me that I have 2 different sets of pulls for my dresser! I must really have a Boho Chic streak developing here. :)

Our plan for the room includes:
* Paint the walls a dark grey, much like this Martha Stewart color

* Add crisp white board & batten paneling

* Update the light fixture - a ceiling fan is a must on our top floor bedroom in sticky Kansas summers

(Via Lowe's)

* Upholster a headboard

* Get a shaggy rug

(Via cb2)

* Hang up random artwork and family photos in black and white frames.

And viola! My dream room will be done! (If only it was that easy!)

We have discussed listing the old lion head pulls on eBay to see if anyone out there wants them, but then we came up with the great idea to offer them to Haven's school first. That sounds pretty random, I know, but her school name (Cair Paravel Latin) was based on The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. And as such, there are references to lions everywhere. The theater is even named the Stone Table Theater and the doors leading into it look like wardrobe doors. Wouldn't those lion heads look fetching as door handles?? Now to convince the headmaster...
