But instead it's a post about piering my house. Progress around here has been moving at a snail's pace lately. And it's not because we've been busy or anything. We have been incredibly busy before and still managed to get things done around the house. But things came to a screeching halt in mid-July, right after we had carpet installed in our family room. I was planning on doing a big time reveal once we got the carpet in, but something else monumental happened that week. Our foundation moved. A lot. Here is what it looked like on the outside of our house...
Pretty major, huh? And just for reference, here are Adam's finger, fitting comfortably in that crack...
Yep - a clear view to the back yard. Not exactly energy efficient, huh? We called immediately for a diagnosis and quote, but were told it would be months before the company could get to it. The extreme temperatures and drought this summer had wreaked havoc on our neighborhood, causing all sorts of foundation issues. So we were put on the bottom of the list and resigned ourselves to the fact that we wouldn't be able to get it fixed until April.
Fast forward to yesterday afternoon - we were back in KC at my in-law's house when Adam got a call, telling him that the company was going to be out first thing in the morning to start the process. YIPES! And early this morning, this was the sight outside my front door...

Although I have been really bummed about the amount of money it is taking to fix this issue, I was relieved to get the whole thing over with. In just a few short hours, they had jack hammered up the patio, dug down really far, installed the piers, pushed the bottom of my house back up into place and re-positioned it on bedrock. They are busy filling everything back in and re-pouring the patio, so things should be right back to normal by the end of the day! It really is amazing to see what 4 guys and some heavy machinery can do! So now we are ready to patch up some cracks and touch up paint and get to the rest of our plans around here!
